6 Tips For Throwing a Bar or Bat Mitzvah Party
Becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvahs requires so much hard work and preparation, and that means a party is in order following the Temple portion of the event. Here are some of our favorite tips for throwing the Bar or Bat Mitzvah party of a lifetime.
Tips for Throwing an Epic Bar or Bat Mitzvah Party
#1. First Thing’s First, Pick the Venue
What’s a party without a great venue to host it at? One of your first steps is to find the right location for your Mitzvah, taking into consideration your budget, number of guests, as well as the location of the temple where the ceremony will be held. It’s nice to have the party in close proximity to the temple so that it’s easy for your guests to travel to the party afterwards.
Some venues will provide all of the food, chairs, drinks and just about everything else you need to throw a great bar mitzvah party. Other venues are going to require that you do the work yourself and order everything in, which is going to be more work.
At LHPYC we throw all kinds of parties – from weddings to mitzvahs. You can count on our party planners and beautiful waterfront venue to deliver everything you’re looking for and more.
#2. Choose a Theme
Do you prefer to keep things more traditional or do you want to create a special them for your event? We’ve seen it all – from luaus to Hollywood star-studded themes. Talk it over as a family to find an option that makes everyone happy. A lot of people choose to skip a theme and keep things more traditional, which is perfectly fine too.
#3. Entertainment is Everything
Entertainment is a crucial component of any bar or bat mitzvah. After all, you’ll have a whole bunch of 13 and 14-year-old teens to entertain. Hiring a live band or singer that’ll incorporate games and activities for the kids to enjoy will make the night fun and memorable for all.
Your options are unlimited when it comes to different entertainment ideas so look around and see what all is out there.
#4. A Video Presentation
A common component of bar and bat mitzvahs is a video montage highlighting the Mitzvah’s life thus far. Don’t forget to include fun childhood pics, including sweet baby photos. Think about the guests that’ll be there and include photos of them with the guest of honor to make people feel included and really get the waterworks going.
#5. Photographer and Videographer
You’ll want to document the special day with some help from a photographer and perhaps a videographer too. So much time and planning will go into this special day and you’ll want to remember it for many years to come. Check out work from several different vendors before making your decision. Furthermore, make sure they have experience shooting bar mitzvahs so that you can be sure they know all of the key details to photograph.
Even if you plan to have a photographer, adding a photobooth is always a great idea. It gives guests something fun to do, as well as a neat take home souvenir. Make sure that the photobooth company you hire comes with plenty of fun props, because who doesn’t want to wear a unicorn mask and take a silly photo?
#6. Don’t Forget the Invitations
You’ll want to get your invitations out in the mail at least two to three months ahead of the celebration to ensure as many people can come as possible. Plus, this gives people time to RSVP. It also gives you enough time to plan accordingly for the total number of guests that’ll be in attendance. Don’t forget to include a response card so that guests can easily respond if they’ll be in attendance or not.
There are so many details that go into planning the perfect bar or bat mitzvah, and while this list doesn’t cover it all, we are more than happy to make sure you check off all of the boxes when you host your bar/bat mitzvah at Lighthouse Point Yacht Club. Learn more
